Cosmetic Surgery

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, more and more people are enhancing their appearance through cosmetic surgery.  Some of the most popular procedures include liposculpture, VASER Lipo, male breast reduction, eyelid lifts, face lifts, neck lifts and rhinoplasty.

Described as “One of the best kept secrets on the health and beauty scene”, MLD is regularly prescribed in Europe and America to improve healing, decrease pain and reduce recovery time after cosmetic surgery.  MLD treatment pre- and post- surgery is often recommended to get the lymphatic system to optimal condition.

Following the procedure there will be an amount of surplus fluid in the body, both from the fluid that contained the anaesthetic and from the body’s natural healing reaction.  The lymphatic system naturally removes any excess fluid in the body.  MLD treatment optimises the working of your lymphatic system.  The specific and gentle movements of the skin during your MLD treatment stimulate and increase the rate of removal of waste products, toxins and excess fluid from the body’s tissues.  This helps reduce swelling and bruising, accelerates the healing process and reduces scar tissue formation to ultimately help you to achieve your final result faster.

The time it takes for the skin to recover can differ from person to person due to factors such as age, general health, lifestyle etc.  A course of MLD treatments makes the healing process much quicker.

Having treated post-VASER clients over a number of years, I would recommend that the first MLD session be around 48 hours after surgery.  Early MLD treatment will focus on clearing excess fluid, red blood cells, swelling etc. before it can become organised into bruises or hardness (fibrosis).  This will encourage a smoother and more even finish.  Once the initial swelling has been cleared, further MLD treatments will focus on any specific concerns, such as hardened areas.

MLD can commence immediately after surgery, with three to six treatments recommended within the first 1 – 2 weeks.
